Meet one of our Dawson College Interns, Echo Jiang, 17. She is facilitating our girls’ club at Beurling Academy in Verdun, Montreal on Thursdays. The special fact about Echo: She moved to Canada from China by herself at age 15.

✨A quote that inspires her.

“If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”

Shirley Chisholm

What do you expect to gain from your internship?

I would like to gain more knowledge about the daily lives of young women in Canada in order to empathize with this population. I’m also open to any constructive suggestions regarding my facilitation skills, teamwork skills, as well as communication skills so that I can improve accordingly.

What do you do in your free time?

Watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S!!! Cooking, Shopping & Chatting with my friends, Enjoying music & movies.

What are your future aspirations, goals and dreams?

I would like to complete my DEC of Social Service and then major International Development in a university ( I’m hoping McGill!) I also plan to travel more while volunteering internationally!

What program are you studying at Dawson College?

Social Service.

Why did you select the ForUsGirls foundation to complete your internship?

I was immediately attracted by the ForUsGirls Foundation when I first saw the website. I felt very connected with the idea of “educate, engage, and empowerment” because they correspond with my personal values. Promoting diversity and uniqueness of girls with a team has been my goal for a long time and now I am more than happy to realize it with this ForUsGirls!!!

Echo has demonstrated significant growth in her learning and personal development, as a facilitator and young leader. Leave her a word of encouragement in the comments.
