The ForUsGirls Foundation Inc. was founded by Aminka Belvitt, in 2015. Her vision created our organization, and it continues to grow under her leadership. We officially launched our first community program, "Brunch With Us," on May 3rd, 2015 in partnership with the Cote-Des-Neiges Black Community Association at the Nelson Mandela Chalet, in Montreal.
Quickly, after launching the first of its kind; a feminist, empowerment-based, leadership development community initiative designed for young womxn and girls of colour, in Montreal. We grew our weekly sessions to over 50 girls every Sunday - during the summer of 2016. During this time, our President & CEO, Aminka Belvitt, was introduced to Mr. Alix Adrian (former principal of Beurling Academy) by Mme.Yves-Marie Francois, who was the incoming Principal at Beurling Academy in Verdun, Montreal. He invited ForUsGirls to deliver its confidence-building and impact-focused weekly girls' club at Beurling Academy.
We graciously accepted the challenge of building trust and the confidence of the girls' club members. After two years, 100% of the program seniors graduated from high schools with academic & leadership awards and honours. We expanded our programs with the launch of the C for Coding program in February 2017 since we have trained over 150+ young womxn and girls with coding skills.
Our mission to develop community and global leaders inspired us to create our professional development, global leadership and entrepreneurial training accelerator program hosted and sponsored by Shopify. The Emerging Young Global Leaders (YGL) Accelerator program is a 7-week entrepreneurial training program with an extended 3-6 month mentorship program. YGL challenges young BIPOC womxn to design and prototype solutions for the UN 17 Global Goals, as community projects and social-impact focused businesses.
The ForUsGirls Foundation is committed to the UN 17 Global Goals and focuses on Goal 3 Well Being, Goal 4 Quality Education, and Goal 5 Gender Equality. We provide humanitarian and educational support to 6 primary and secondary schools in St. James and Trelawny, Jamaica. Our vision is a world where black girls, all girls, especially black girls, have the opportunity and access to develop into their full potential.
We are seeking experienced professionals who identify as womxn and non-binary individuals who are Black, Indigenous, Women of colour to contribute to the strategic oversight, planning, financial stewardship and governance of our organization, work and mission. If you are looking to make an impact in the lives of young womxn and girls, consider volunteering with our organization.
Our vision is to be a leader in responsive, innovative, empowered, impact-based programming. An innovative leader focused on creating a social incubation lab to develop futuristic problem-solving solutions designed by young Black women, girls and gender-diverse youth. This year we celebrate nine years of our community innovation journey. Stay with us as we transform a few lives....5,0000 and counting!
